Biography

The first Hanoverian king born in Britain, George reigned through the Seven Years War victory, the loss of the American colonies, and the long wars against revolutionary and Napoleonic France. The Act of Union of 1800 created the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Recurring episodes of mental illness led to the Regency from 1811, with his son ruling as Prince Regent. His sixty year reign was the longest of any British king.
