Biography

Mansa of Mali, his 1324 hajj spent so much gold in Cairo it depressed prices for years, the richest man ever estimated. Timbuktu Sankore, Sidi Yahya, Djinguereber, manuscripts, the city of gold legend drew European maps with his image enthroned. The empire, Niger gold and salt trade, stretched to the Atlantic. Catalan Atlas 1375 drew him with gold nugget and scepter.
