Akhenaten
Biography
Born Amenhotep IV, he changed his name to honor the sun disk Aten and raised it above the traditional gods in a religious revolution. He built a new capital at Amarna, and Amarna art portrayed the royal family with unusual intimacy. His chief wife was Nefertiti. After his death traditional religion returned under Tutankhamun, and later pharaohs tried to erase his memory from the record.
