Biography

Tutored by Aristotle, Alexander inherited the throne of Macedon at twenty after the murder of his father Philip II. In barely a decade he defeated Darius III at Issus and Gaugamela, took Egypt, founded Alexandria, and marched as far as the Indus before his exhausted army refused to go further. He died in Babylon at thirty two. His generals carved up the empire, and Greek culture spread across the Hellenistic world.
