Biography
Philip turned a weak, divided kingdom into the strongest power in the Greek world. He reorganized the army around the sarissa pike phalanx and combined it with heavy cavalry. Victory over Athens and Thebes at Chaeronea in 338 BC gave him control of Greece through the League of Corinth. He was assassinated at Aegae while preparing to invade Persia, leaving the plan and the army to his son Alexander.
