Frederick Barbarossa
Biography
Frederick I restored imperial power, canon law revival, Peace of the Land. Six Italian campaigns against Lombard cities and popes, Legnano defeat 1176 forced him to recognize the cities. He drowned in the Salef river on the Third Crusade, legend says he sleeps in the Kyffhäuser mountain to return in Germany hour of need. The Nazis named the 1941 invasion Operation Barbarossa.
