Wilhelm II
Biography
Grandson of Queen Victoria, Wilhelm dismissed Bismarck in 1890 and pursued an assertive world policy, building a battle fleet that alarmed Britain. His erratic statements fed international tensions before World War I, during which real power passed largely to the army high command. Revolution in November 1918 forced him to abdicate and flee to the Netherlands, where he lived in exile until his death in 1941.
