Biography
Well meaning but indecisive, Louis convened the Estates General 1789, first since 1614, over bankruptcy. The Revolution swept past him, Bastille, Rights of Man, his family imprisoned after Varennes flight. The Tuileries and the Swiss Guard massacre followed. Tried and executed January 1793, Citizen Louis Capet. Marie Antoinette followed. The monarchy abolished, the Terror began.
