The city of cities fell May 29 1453, the Theodosian walls breached, the last Roman emperor died in the breach. Mehmed claimed the Caesar title, the Kayser-i Rum, and the caliphate legacy. Italy invasion attempted, Otranto 1480. Greek scholars fled west with manuscripts feeding the Renaissance, the gunpowder age of walls proven. A polyglot, he spoke five languages, patron and paranoid.
