Richard I of England
Biography
Son of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine, Richard spent only about six months of his reign in England. On the Third Crusade he took Acre and defeated Saladin at Arsuf but did not retake Jerusalem, agreeing a truce in 1192. Captured on his way home by Leopold of Austria and handed to Emperor Henry VI, he was released for a huge ransom. He died of a crossbow wound at Chalus in France.
